Who is The Lonely Creative?

We are two sisters doing what we love and making things that bring us joy. Between us, we write, edit, design, paint, publish, photograph, illustrate, typeset, and so much more.

We have been working together ever since Lisa handed Naomi a fantasy manuscript over twenty years ago and said, “What do you think?” Since then, publishing fantasy novels has been a joint venture and a passion, getting us through the many dark days and struggles that writing and publishing brings. It has even led us to publish other books for other authors under our own imprint and work on books for other publishers. Even when Lisa’s novels were taken up by a traditional publisher, we continued to work together. (Lisa insisted on having Naomi on board as the first test reader, typesetter and cover designer.)

The Lonely Creative is the writing and publishing half of our website. Willow Lane Art & Design is the other half, where we combine Naomi’s design and graphic art with Lisa’s painting and drawing to create a whole range of products for sale on this site.

Like our books, Willow Lane Art & Design arises out of meaning, passion and heart.

‘The Lonely Creative’ is an interesting name, isn’t it? So why did we choose that one? We guess it’s because loneliness and isolation has been a big part of the road we have been asked to walk.

We are just two people called by God to stand alone in the great big convoluted world of publishing. We are called to the middle places: the places that don’t quite belong to anyone or anything, and yet connect to everyone. These are the lonely places where many pass through but few stay. Perhaps you are there too?

We both believe that for all our differences, there is a place where we are all the same. We all share heartaches, hopes, fears, doubts, pain and joys. That, we believe, is the middle ground, and that is where you can always come and find us any time you want to read a novel that speaks to the very heart of who we all are.

The God-Stories Behind the Stories

It’s hard to explain to people just how much God has ordained these books

and this journey, but some of these posts might help.
